SAIC's project processes are accessible to SMEs

Any company active in the field of aquaculture in Scotland, or in a related industry, is eligible to apply for SAIC funding. This includes SMEs.

We have designed our project processes so that they are accessible to small and medium-sized companies. This includes an accelerated and simplified application process for smaller projects (for example, those with a total project cost of less than £100,000 or proposed by SMEs).

If you do wish to apply for SAIC funding, a few criteria apply:

  • You’ll need to collaborate with at least one academic partner, and you must be willing to contribute to the project.  We appreciate that capital can be an issue for SMEs, so this contribution could be in kind, rather than financial.
  • Project proposals should be motivated by problems and opportunities faced by your business. The proposal should also demonstrate clear technical challenges that cannot be met by currently available technology.
  • The minimum project size we will consider is around £60,000-£80,000. If your project proposal falls below this minimum level, we may be able to direct you to other funding sources.

Our funding application process for SMEs

As an SME, you may be eligible for our Rapid Response application process. To qualify, your proposed project must meet one or more of these criteria

  • Total project cost below £100,000
  • SAIC is asked for funding input of less than 50%
  • Duration of 12 months of less
  • Proposal comes from SME(s)
