Aquaculture Careers is the must-attend event for those interested in working in the sector.

Supported by SAIC along with the Institute of Aquaculture, the event was first introduced in 2015 by the Aquaculture Students’ Association at the University of Stirling.

Open to fourth year undergraduates, MSc and PhD students alike, the aim was to help increase awareness of the different career paths available with the sector; offer a clear idea of what employers are looking for in candidates; and help students make potentially valuable connections with industry.

Fast forward a few years and such has been the success of the event that Aquaculture Careers 2017 was opened up to students undertaking an aquaculture-related course at any Scottish university – a move which has helped introduce, and forge ties between, the aquaculture community of the future.

Building on this, Aquaculture Careers 2018 may open to aquaculture students throughout the UK.

The day was very career-specific … and relevant. Students had the chance to meet in person with some of the key employers, and I was even able to ask questions relevant to my ongoing job application process that improved my specific knowledge. This gave me a better chance to achieve my present position.”
